The Greene County Rams won a baseball game and two softball games during a weekend that saw both teams rained out of games.
The baseball team won Saturday in the Kuemper tournament vs the Raptors of Ridgeview (Holstein), but the Sunday games in the tournament were cancelled due to rain.
The Ram softball team won both games it played in Jewell in the South Hamilton Saturday. The girls were slated to play in the championship game vs Interstate 35 (Truro) but that game was cancelled due to rain.
The Rams topped the Cadets of Iowa Falls-Alden in a shut-out in which the Ram bats connected for 14 hits. Juniors Kayla Mobley and Tressa Rasmussen had three hits each, juniors Emily Christensen and Marissa Promes had two hits each, and juniors Emma Saddoris and Hannah Onken and sophomores Sydney Koch and Carleigh Paup had one hit each. Rasmussen and Paup hit doubles; the other 12 hit were all singles. Onken and Rasmussen had two RBI and Mobley and Promes each had one.
Promes was on the pitching rubber. She struck out seven batters and walked none. IF-A got only one hit off her. Promes is 18-3 on the season and has 166 strikeouts and 19 walks.
The Rams got 18 hits in an 11-0 game against Southeast Webster-Grand. The game was 11-0 after two innings, but went five innings due to the 10-run rule. Freshman Hannah Promes, Christensen and Saddoris hit doubles. The rest of the hits were all singles, with the tally showing three for Onken and Rasmussen, two for Hannah Promes, Saddoris and Christensen, and one each for Mobley, Marissa Promes, Paup and sophomore Bailey Godwin. Saddoris had three RBI and Marissa Promes, Hannah Promes, Onken, Paup and Godwin each had two RBI.
The Rams are now 22-6 on the season.
